MCET Students Gain Industry Insights into Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation

Hyderabad, October 27:
Final-year Civil Engineering students of Methodist College of Engineering & Technology (MCET) gained industry insights into land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) during an interactive guest lecture organised by the Department of Civil Engineering on Tuesday.

The session was delivered by Rashmi Nuligonda of the Planning and Coordination Department, Aparna Realty Projects Private Limited. It focused on land acquisition procedures, fair compensation, rehabilitation and resettlement, and the challenges associated with infrastructure development.

Drawing on practical perspectives and case studies, Nuligonda explained the importance of safeguarding the rights and livelihoods of families affected by development projects while ensuring sustainable and equitable growth. She emphasised that effective rehabilitation extends beyond monetary compensation to include housing, employment opportunities, access to essential services and livelihood restoration.

She also highlighted the importance of transparency, community participation, awareness of legal rights and systematic rehabilitation planning in the implementation of infrastructure projects.

The lecture evolved into an engaging interaction, with students raising questions about land acquisition procedures, practical industry challenges and career opportunities in Civil Engineering, particularly in planning-related departments. Nuligonda explained the concepts clearly, addressed their queries and helped them understand how these processes are handled in the industry.

Students expressed that the session had provided valuable insights into the subject. They appreciated the resource person’s clear explanations and the opportunity to clarify their doubts through direct interaction, describing the programme as a useful combination of a lecture and an interactive discussion.

Dr. Bandita Naik, HoD(Civil), Faculty members Srikanth Renikunta and S. Deva Samyuktha presented a memento to Nuligonda as a token of appreciation for sharing her expertise and engaging with the students.

The guest lecture helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice, providing students with a better understanding of the social, legal and planning dimensions of land acquisition and rehabilitation. The programme also underscored the role of industry–academia interaction in preparing future civil engineers for professional responsibilities.
