A 36-year-old IBM software engineer died after collapsing minutes after completing a full marathon at Gachibowli Stadium on Sunday morning.
Kommineni Gopi, a resident of Alkapur Colony in Manikonda and a native of Ravinoothala village in Khammam district, had completed the 42.2-km race organised by NEB and received his finisher’s medal. He collapsed around 8 a.m. while walking towards the breakfast area, police said.
Event organisers rushed him to CARE Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival at about 8:45 a.m. Police said a heart attack was suspected, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered.
Gopi is survived by his wife and three-year-old daughter.
