Actors Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday to raise concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology, particularly the unauthorised use of artists’ likenesses and creative work.
They highlighted potential risks to artists’ rights, personal dignity and intellectual property, and the wider implications for the film industry.
Shah heard their concerns and said the government would examine the issue on priority, according to a press note. He indicated that stronger safeguards and appropriate penalties would be considered, and asked the actors to submit a formal representation. Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy was asked to coordinate the follow-up.
Chiranjeevi described the meeting as encouraging for the film fraternity and expressed hope that effective measures would be taken soon.
