Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lead a BJP padayatra through central Hyderabad on Monday, turning the party’s campaign over the electoral rolls into a street mobilisation against the Opposition’s criticism of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The march is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. from the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue opposite Nizam College in Basheerbagh, pass through Abids and conclude at Mozamjahi Market. Shah is expected to address a gathering at the concluding point.
Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao and other party leaders and workers are expected to participate.
The event follows an INDIA bloc rally in Delhi on November 1 over electoral rolls. BJP leaders have described the Hyderabad march, held under the slogan “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao” (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy), as a response to what they call misinformation about the SIR exercise.
Hyderabad Traffic Police have announced restrictions and diversions from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in and around Basheerbagh, BJR Statue, Liberty, Nampally, Abids, King Koti, Mozamjahi Market and Afzalgunj. Commuters have been advised to avoid affected roads where possible and plan their journeys accordingly.
The march is expected to continue into the evening, with Shah’s address scheduled at Mozamjahi Market. The programme and timings may change.
