Laxman demands apology from Kharge over remarks on Modi’s family

New Delhi, October 26: Rajya Sabha MP Dr. K. Laxman on Monday condemned Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s reported remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s family and demanded an unconditional apology, accusing the Congress leadership of resorting to personal attacks instead of constructive political debate.

Laxman said political differences were natural in a democracy, but leaders holding high public office should maintain dignity and restraint in their public statements. He argued that criticism of a Prime Minister’s policies should not extend to disparaging remarks about family members.

The BJP MP also referred to earlier remarks by Rahul Gandhi concerning Modi’s caste identity, accusing the Congress of inconsistency in its stated commitment to social justice and the rights of backward communities.

Alleging that the Congress was unable to counter the Prime Minister’s development and welfare initiatives with substantive arguments, Laxman said political disagreements should be addressed through facts rather than personal criticism. He also accused the Congress leadership of allowing political frustration to influence its public discourse.

“People may disagree politically with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies, but that does not justify insulting the dignity of his family,” Laxman said, adding that a leader’s standing in a democracy was ultimately determined by public trust and votes.

BJP announces protests across Telangana

Laxman announced that the BJP would organise protests in Hyderabad and at district headquarters across Telangana to condemn Kharge’s remarks and register its opposition to the Congress leadership’s approach.
