HYDERABAD: A student of Amrita Hotel Management College in the SR Nagar area of Hyderabad reportedly died by suicide on Saturday morning, triggering protests by fellow students outside the college.
Students staged a protest alleging that the college principal had subjected the deceased student to harassment. They demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against those responsible. The allegations are yet to be independently established, and the circumstances surrounding the student’s death need to be investigated by the police.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over student safety, institutional accountability and the monitoring of private colleges operating in residential areas, particularly in the SR Nagar and Ameerpet localities of Hyderabad.
Despite the presence of numerous private educational institutions in these densely populated areas, questions remain about the implementation of student welfare measures, grievance redressal systems, counselling facilities and regular inspections.
Authorities concerned must conduct a comprehensive review of hostel safety standards and ensure that educational institutions provide a safe, supportive and harassment-free environment for students.
Key demand: A thorough police investigation into the student’s death, examination of the allegations against the college management and stronger monitoring of private colleges and hostels in Hyderabad.
