Collector Khushboo Gupta Calls for Special Focus on Sanitation, Education and Healthcare in Villages

MAHABUBNAGAR : District Collector Khushboo Gupta directed officials to give special attention to improving sanitation facilities and ensuring quality education and healthcare services for people in rural areas. On Wednesday, the Collector conducted surprise inspections in Pommal and Thimmaipally villages of Nawabpet mandal, reviewing sanitation works, government primary schools, Anganwadi centres and a Primary Health Sub-Centre. During her visit to Pommal village, the Collector inspected sanitation works and interacted with villagers to understand the condition of cleanliness and sanitation management. When residents complained that sanitation activities were not being carried out properly, she directed the concerned officials to take immediate measures to improve cleanliness in the village. Later, she visited the government primary school and assessed the learning abilities of students. In a Class II classroom, she asked students whether they could clearly see the Telugu letters and words written on the blackboard. After noticing that one girl student was unable to see the letters properly, she instructed the headmaster to arrange an eye examination immediately and, if necessary, seek the assistance of the RBSK medical team. She also inspected all the classrooms and directed officials to ensure that students were provided with the necessary basic facilities. The Collector also noticed a leakage in the village drinking water pipeline. In view of the possible impact of El Niño and the likelihood of water scarcity in the coming months, she stressed the need to conserve every drop of water. She instructed the concerned officials to immediately repair pipeline leakages and prevent the wastage of drinking water. Subsequently, she inspected the Primary Health Sub-Centre in the village and noticed the absence of basic facilities such as electricity, fans and lights. She directed officials to arrange the required infrastructure without delay. Interacting with patients and pregnant women who had visited the centre, she enquired about the availability of medical services and medicines, as well as the implementation of the vaccination programme. When staff informed her that the sub-centre catered to five villages, she instructed them to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services without causing inconvenience to the public. During the visit, the village Sarpanch informed the Collector that an Anganwadi building constructed three years ago in Gadda Colony of Pommal village had not yet been inaugurated or put to use. Responding immediately, the Collector spoke over the phone with District Women and Child Welfare Officer Zarina Begum and enquired about the reasons for the delay. She directed the officer to take immediate necessary steps to make the building functional. Later, the Collector visited the Anganwadi centre in Thimmaipally village and reviewed the services being provided to children, pregnant women and lactating mothers. She enquired about the number of children attending the centre and the details of pregnant women registered there. She also personally checked the weight of children and inspected the food supplies available at the centre. When staff informed her that the supply of nutritional food items, including pulses, leafy vegetables and eggs, had been disrupted, she contacted the concerned officials over the phone to ascertain the reasons. She directed them to resolve the issue immediately and ensure an uninterrupted supply of nutritious food to beneficiaries. Village Sarpanch Kavitha, Deputy Sarpanch Anjaneyulu, In-charge Panchayat Secretary Kranthi Kumar, GPO Ramesh, Ward Members Sumalatha and Narasamma, and others accompanied the Collector during the inspection.
