Cyberabad: Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh, IPS, has invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against notorious property offender Nagaraju Raghu Varma, also known by several aliases, for his alleged involvement in a series of criminal activities, including cheating, kidnapping, robbery, extortion and impersonation of a police officer. He has been detained and lodged at Central Prison, Cherlapalli, in Medchal district, to prevent him from committing further offences.
According to Cyberabad Police, the accused, a native of Poduru Mandal in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, migrated to Hyderabad and initially worked as a driver. With the intention of earning easy money and leading a luxurious lifestyle, he allegedly turned to criminal activities and began impersonating a police officer to deceive people. He reportedly threatened victims by falsely claiming that criminal cases had been registered against them at various police stations and extorted money on the pretext of helping them escape legal consequences. He also allegedly kidnapped targeted persons and robbed them of money by threatening them with firearms.
Police records indicate that the accused was involved in 14 criminal cases between 2017 and 2026, relating to cheating, kidnapping, robbery, extortion, criminal intimidation and offences under the Arms Act, 1959. Despite being detained twice under the PD Act by Cyberabad Police in 2021 and 2024, he allegedly resumed his criminal activities after his release and became involved in four more cases of kidnapping, extortion and robbery by impersonating a police officer.
In connection with the latest cases, Jagadgirigutta Police of the Cyberabad Commissionerate arrested the accused and lodged him in jail. Considering his continued involvement in criminal activities despite previous preventive action, Commissioner of Police Dr. M. Ramesh invoked the PD Act against him once again and ordered his detention to prevent him from indulging in further criminal activities.
The detenu has been identified as Nagaraju Raghu Varma, also known as Nagaraju Karthikeya Raghu Varma, Vamshi, Alluri Vijaya Ram and Col. Karthikeya Singh, son of Nagaraju Padmanabharaju alias Paddaraju, aged 29, and a native of Poduru Mandal in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
