Cyberabad: Cyberabad Police have alerted the public to a new cyber fraud being carried out in the name of Diwali gifts, warning people against clicking on suspicious links circulated through WhatsApp and social media platforms. Cybercriminals are reportedly using the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lure people with fake promises of Diwali gift vouchers worth Rs. 8,000.
As part of its public awareness initiative, Cyberabad Police cautioned that fraudsters are taking advantage of the festive season to cheat unsuspecting people by circulating misleading messages with attractive offers. These messages often contain links claiming that users are eligible to receive a special Diwali gift. Once a person clicks on such links, fraudsters may gain access to personal information, banking credentials and other sensitive details, potentially leading to financial losses.
Police advised citizens not to believe such attractive offers without verifying their authenticity. People should never click on links received from unknown sources or share their personal, banking or OTP details with anyone. They were also advised to remain cautious while responding to suspicious WhatsApp messages, social media posts and calls from unknown numbers.
Cyberabad Police further urged citizens to immediately report any cyber financial fraud by calling the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or registering a complaint through the official portal www.cybercrime.gov.in.
Reiterating that public safety is their responsibility, Cyberabad Police appealed to citizens to stay alert, verify information before acting on it and spread awareness among family members and friends to prevent them from falling victim to online fraud during the festive season.
