HYDERABAD:
In a major push toward resolving persistent traffic gridlocks around the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park, Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inspected ongoing civil works and finalized alignment plans on Thursday. Accompanied by Hyderabad District Collector Dr. Priyanka Ala, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Additional Commissioner B. Santosh, and senior engineering officials, the Minister reviewed steps to ensure smooth traffic movement while safeguarding the green cover.
Authorities announced that the existing one-way vehicular system around KBR Park will continue, while prior proposals for standalone underpasses and grade separators have been formally scrapped. Instead, the government is executing a 4.3-km-long, six-lane elevated modular steel corridor connecting Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction to NFCL Junction at an estimated cost of ₹1,090 crore.
The project will be built under two Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) packages:
- Package 1: Jubilee Hills Check Post to Mugdha Junction at ₹580 crore.
- Package 2: Mugdha Junction to Muffakham Jah College, including an exclusive ramp descending to Banjara Hills Road No. 1, at ₹510 crore.
Engineered to facilitate uninterrupted, signal-free transit across five congested intersections, the elevated corridor aims to cut travel time, lower fuel consumption, and streamline arterial traffic flows.
The adoption of modular prefabricated steel construction will accelerate execution timelines while preventing encroachment into the eco-sensitive zone around KBR Park. By replacing multiple subterranean and grade structures with an integrated elevated alignment, the state exchequer is estimated to save approximately ₹800 crore in land acquisition and ₹400 crore in civil work costs, resulting in an overall public expenditure saving of ₹1,200 crore.
