Rat droppings, cockroach infestations and rotten or expired food were among the violations that led food safety officials to suspend the licences of 14 Hyderabad eateries and order them to stop operations on Saturday.
The special drive by the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) covered the Golconda and Charminar zones. Twenty-two enforcement teams, comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel, inspected establishments; eight others were issued show-cause notices.
Among the eateries facing suspension are Shah Ghouse Cafe at Shalibanda, Hotel Nayaab at Nayapool, Lucky Restaurant at Santosh Nagar, Mehfil Restaurant at Dilsukhnagar and Sohail Restaurant at Malakpet.
Inspectors reported raw meat stored alongside vegetarian food, vegetables with fungal contamination, expired food articles and repeated use of cooking oil. Several kitchens had greasy chimneys, damaged floors, stagnant water and poor drainage. Food handlers were found working without hairnets or aprons.
