BJP to hold mock Parliament in Delhi on October 30

NEW DELHI, October 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will organise a mock Parliament session in New Delhi on October 30, 2026, in response to a similar exercise planned by the INDIA bloc, setting the stage for competing political programmes centred on the functioning of constitutional institutions and allegations of electoral irregularities.

According to the press note, the BJP plans to set up a temporary structure resembling Parliament for the event. The session is intended to portray the Congress and other Opposition parties’ approach inside and outside Parliament, including their engagement with institutions such as the Election Commission and the judiciary.

Senior BJP leaders expected to participate include party national president Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Members of Parliament from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have also been invited.

The BJP’s announcement comes as the INDIA bloc prepares to hold a mock parliamentary exercise featuring a symbolic public impeachment proceeding against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Opposition has raised allegations of electoral irregularities in connection with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The INDIA bloc has shifted its October 30 programme to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence at 10 Rajaji Marg after reported difficulties securing permission for other venues. The alliance has also planned a ‘Dilli Chalo’ march and rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1 as part of its campaign over alleged electoral irregularities.

The two proposed events will place the BJP and the Opposition alliance at the centre of parallel political programmes on October 30, with both using a parliamentary-style format to present their respective positions on the controversy surrounding the Election Commission.
